Three-panel sliding showers have two or three glass panels that overlap as the door slides. The vertical edges where these panels pass each other need seals to prevent water spraying through the gap. This side seal is profiled to fit the 6mm glass used in standard sliding shower enclosures.
How Three-Panel Sliders Work
In a three-panel configuration, the outer panels are typically fixed, and the centre panel slides along tracks between them. As the centre panel moves, it passes the edges of the fixed panels. The seals on these edges create a water barrier at each overlap point, even though the panels are not pressing tightly together.
Signs You Need a Replacement
If water is leaking from the edges of your sliding shower door, the side seals are the first thing to check. Over years of use, the rubber hardens, cracks, or compresses permanently, losing its ability to block water. Replacing the seals is a simple and inexpensive fix compared to replacing the entire enclosure.
