Shower channels are the foundation of every frameless glass shower installation. These U-shaped metal profiles fix to the wall and floor, creating a track that the glass panel sits into. Without channels, the glass has no stable connection to the building structure and cannot support its own weight safely over time.
What Shower Channels Do
Each channel is fixed to the wall or floor surface, and the glass panel slides into the channel opening. A rubber gasket (sold separately) sits inside the channel between the metal and the glass, providing cushioning and a watertight seal. The channel distributes the load of the glass evenly along its length rather than concentrating weight at individual fixing points.
How Many Do You Need?
A typical frameless shower installation requires channels on every edge where glass meets a wall or the floor. For a standard alcove shower with one fixed panel and one door, you may need three to four lengths: one floor channel and two or three wall channels depending on the configuration. Your installer will calculate the exact requirements based on your shower layout.
Cutting to Size
Channels are supplied in 2 metre lengths and can be cut to the exact measurements needed on site. For showers with glass heights of 1950mm (the NZ standard), a single 2 metre length covers one full wall run with minimal waste.
Coordinated Finishes
Available in Chrome, Matt Black, Brushed Nickel, Gunmetal, and Brushed Brass. Matching your channel finish to your hinges, handles, and clips creates a consistent hardware palette across the entire shower enclosure. Custom lengths are available on request for non-standard installations.
