Knauf Moisture Resistant (MR) plasterboard is manufactured specifically for areas exposed to moisture and humidity. In bathroom construction, it is the required wall substrate behind shower liners, tiled shower walls, and any wall surface that will be exposed to steam and water vapour.
Why Moisture Resistant Board?
Standard gypsum plasterboard absorbs moisture, which causes it to swell, deteriorate, and eventually fail. MR board is treated to resist moisture absorption, maintaining its structural integrity in humid environments. Using standard board behind a shower liner is a common building mistake that leads to costly damage.
Pack Options
Available as a single 2.4m sheet, a 10-pack, or a 20-pack. The larger packs suit full bathroom renovations and new builds where multiple sheets are needed. Single sheets are useful for patch repairs and small projects.
Installation
Fixed to wall framing in the same way as standard plasterboard. Must be installed before shower liners or tiles. All NZ building work should comply with current Building Code requirements for wet area construction.
