Shower Columns & Slide Showers

A slide shower puts the handpiece on a vertical rail so the height can be adjusted, which is the practical answer in any household where people are different heights. A fixed rose set for one person is set wrong for everyone else. A rail takes seconds to adjust and stays where it is put.

Slide showers also make cleaning the shower much easier, since the handpiece comes off the rail and can be directed at the walls, the floor and the glass. In a household with children or pets, that alone justifies the choice.

A shower column combines an overhead rose and a handpiece on a single unit fed from one connection. That makes it the far easier retrofit where you want the rain shower experience but do not want to open the wall to run new plumbing for a separate ceiling outlet. Columns typically include a diverter so you can switch between the overhead and the handpiece.

One thing to check with any overhead rose, particularly the larger rain heads, is flow rate against your water pressure. A wide rain head spreads a given volume of water over a much larger area, and on a low pressure system that can mean a gentle drizzle rather than the shower you had in mind. Confirm your pressure before specifying a large rose.
