LED Mirrors

The lighting in most bathrooms comes from a single ceiling downlight, which throws light down onto the top of your head and puts your face in shadow. That is why shaving and applying makeup are harder than they should be in a room specifically designed for both.

A backlit LED mirror fixes it by placing the light source around the perimeter of the glass at face height. The light is diffuse and comes from multiple directions, so it fills in shadow rather than creating it. It is a noticeable improvement the first morning you use one.

Most models include a demister pad, a heating element bonded behind the glass that keeps the mirror clear when the room is full of steam. In a small bathroom or one with poor ventilation, this turns the mirror from something you wipe every morning into something that just works. Some models also offer adjustable colour temperature, letting you switch between warm light for the evening and a cooler daylight tone for getting ready.

The practical constraint is wiring. LED mirrors need a switched supply behind the mirror position, which means planning the electrical rough-in before the wall is lined and tiled. Retrofitting is possible but usually means surface conduit or opening the wall, so decide on this early.

All glass uses a moisture resistant backing suited to wet area installation. Available in a range of sizes and shapes including round, oval and rectangular.
