Mirrors

A bathroom mirror has to do two things: show you an accurate reflection, and survive years of steam without degrading. Cheaper mirrors fail at the second. The silvering behind the glass reacts with moisture that gets in at the edges, producing the black spotting and creeping tarnish you see on older bathroom mirrors. Everything we supply uses a moisture resistant backing specifically for wet area installation.

The main choice is between standard and LED. A standard polished edge or framed mirror is the straightforward option and works well where you already have good lighting at face height. The problem in most bathrooms is that the light comes from a single downlight in the ceiling, which throws shadows straight down your face and makes shaving or applying makeup unnecessarily difficult.

Backlit LED mirrors solve that by putting even, diffuse light around the whole perimeter, so the light falls on your face rather than over the top of your head. Most include a demister pad, which is a heating element behind the glass that keeps the mirror clear after a hot shower. In a small or poorly ventilated bathroom that is the difference between a usable mirror and one you wipe every morning.

The practical constraint with LED is wiring. These need a switched supply behind the mirror, which means planning the electrical rough-in before the wall is lined and tiled. Retrofitting is possible but usually means surface conduit or opening the wall.
