Framed Shower Rollers & Wheels

If your sliding shower door sticks, drags, jumps off its track or has to be lifted to close properly, the rollers have worn out. They are a consumable component and they are meant to be replaced, usually several times over the life of an enclosure.

Rollers carry the full weight of the door across a wet, mineral-laden environment. The wheel material flattens, the bearing seizes, or the housing corrodes. Any of those will stop a door running smoothly, and a door that is forced along a track it no longer sits on properly will eventually damage the track itself, which is a much more expensive repair.

The challenge is identification. Framed shower systems in New Zealand are not standardised, and a roller from one manufacturer will not fit another even where they look nearly identical at a glance. Remove one from the door and measure three things: the diameter of the wheel, the type of mounting stud or bracket, and whether it is a top hanging or bottom running roller. Those three details will narrow it down.

Replace them in complete sets rather than individually. A new roller running alongside three worn ones will sit the door out of level and wear unevenly.
