Toilet Roll Holders

A small item, but one of the few things in a bathroom that gets used by everyone, every day, and one that is very obvious when it is the wrong finish or in the wrong place.

Wall mounted holders are the standard choice and give the tidiest result, with a concealed fixing and no visible screw head. Position matters more than people think: too far forward and it is awkward to reach, too far back and it fouls the cistern. As a rough guide, mount it about 200mm in front of the leading edge of the pan and around 700mm off the floor.

Freestanding holders are the better option in a rental, in a bathroom where you would rather not drill into tile, or where there is simply no suitable wall within reach. Many include storage for spare rolls, which solves a second problem at the same time.

Whichever you choose, match the finish to the rest of your bathroom hardware. This is exactly the item that gets bought separately, months later, in whatever finish the hardware store had, and it is always visible.
